95 THESES | Against Dispensationalism

Disputation of NiceneCouncil.com On

Against DispensationalismThe Power and Efficacy of Dispensationalism
-or-
The Ninety-Five Theses Against Dispensationalism

Preface

What follows should not be interpreted to mean that NiceneCouncil.com nor the historic Bible believing church would place every dispensationalist outside of the Christian faith. We acknowledge that most are dedicated to the foundational orthodox doctrines of Christianity. Unlike the sixteenth century dispute over the doctrine of justification, this is an in-house discussion, a debate among evangelical Christians. We recognize and treasure all born again believers who operate within a dispensational framework as brothers and sisters in Christ. Continue reading

Have you ever wondered why it is that two men can read the same passage of scripture and come up with two totally different interpretations? Or why two men can read the same Bible and yet see things so differently? Two men who love God and yet see the same scripture in two different ways. Is it that one of them is stubborn or unreasonable? No, it is because each of us has within us paradigms of what life is really all about. The word paradigm means a model or a map. We look at life through our paradigms. Inside each of us is a map or model of what life ought to be like. Our paradigms are representations of life. We all have them, and we all have paradigms of eschatology. Eschatology is a word that frightens people, they don’t understand it so they are afraid of it. When I talk about eschatology, I am not talking about the end of time, but the time of the end. There is a very large difference between those two ideas. Eschatology is the doctrine of last things but it is the last things of God’s plan to redeem us, not the last things of planet earth. Continue reading

Hebrews 8:6-10
12/19/1999

In our last message on Paedobaptism, we talked about the fact that we at Berean Bible Church are Reformed, that is we consider ourselves to stand theologically with those churches of the Protestant Reformation of the sixteenth century.

Although we stand with the Reformers on the sovereignty of God and many other areas, we depart from them on the issue of infant baptism. Now, the question that is asked is, “Can you hold to the rich tradition of reformed theology, which involves in it paedobaptism, and yet maintain believer’s baptism?” I think we can, because I think the Scriptures do. The Bible teaches the doctrines that the Reformed faith holds to, but it does not teach infant baptism. In being Reformed and yet practicing believer’s baptism, we are not trying to be different, but we are trying to be true to the Word of God. If we could be convinced from Scripture that infant baptism was correct, we would immediately adopt it. Continue reading

If you were to look through one of our visitor packs or go to our web page and read the section entitled “About Us”, you would find this brief description of Berean Bible Church:

Although labels are sometimes detrimental, they are occasionally helpful in identifying the major beliefs for which a particular church stands. While the following labels or terms are not exhaustive of the particular beliefs adhered to by our church, we hope that they are helpful in understanding us better. Continue reading

1The LORD spoke again to Moses, saying, 2“Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘The LORD’S appointed times which you shall proclaim as holy convocations—My appointed times are these:

3‘For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a sabbath of complete rest, a holy convocation. You shall not do any work; it is a sabbath to the LORD in all your dwellings. Continue reading

We are studying the Feasts of Yahweh found in Leviticus 23:

‘These are the appointed times of the LORD, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at the times appointed for them. Leviticus 23:4 NASB

The words “holy convocations” is the Hebrew miqra, which means: “rehearsal.” The Feasts of Yahweh were appointed times of worship for Israel that would serve as “dress rehearsals” of prophetic events that were to happen in the future. Through these Feasts Yahweh was showing Israel what He was going to do. They were pictures of their coming Messiah and His work. These Feasts, as we have taught, were both literal Feasts celebrated in Israel every year and TYPES of God’s prophetic calendar of events for the Church. Continue reading

We are looking at the Feasts of Yahweh, particularly the Fall Feasts, which are: The Feast of Yom Teruah/Trumpets, which was on the first day of the month Tishri. The Feast of Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement, which took place on the tenth day of Tishri. And the Feast of Sukkot/Tabernacles which started on the fifteenth of Tishri and lasts for seven days. We are studying the “Feasts of Yahweh” found in Leviticus 23. The study of the feasts is a study in typology. These Feasts of Yahweh were given to Israel by God, so His people could understand the coming of Christ and the role that Christ would play in redeeming man back to God following the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. Although most non-Jewish Bible believers have heard of the feasts, the deep meaning and the importance of these feasts are almost universally not understood. Continue reading

by, David B. Curtis
Berean Bible Church

We are studying the “Feasts of Yahweh” found in Leviticus 23. The study of these feasts is a study in typology. Typological hermeneutics involves explicating signs in the Tanakh as foreshadowing events and people in the New Covenant. These seven feasts represent and typify the sequence, timing, and significance of the major events of the Lord’s redemptive history. They commence at Calvary, where Yeshua voluntarily gave Himself for the sins of the world (Passover), and climax at the consummation of the Messianic Kingdom at the Lord’s Second Coming (Tabernacles). These seven feasts depict the entire redemptive career of the Messiah. Continue reading
